Early Life and Background
Lisa Hogan was born in Dublin, Ireland, and grew up before eventually establishing a career in modelling and entertainment. Her Irish background remains an important part of her identity, even though much of her professional and family life has taken place in Britain.
Before becoming familiar to television audiences through Clarkson’s Farm, Hogan worked as a model. Her height and appearance helped her enter an industry that subsequently opened doors to acting.
Her professional interests later expanded beyond modelling and film. She developed a career in sculpture, producing figurative artwork that frequently draws inspiration from animals.
These experiences gave her a background in creative work and business before she became involved in running a farm shop.
Lisa Hogan’s Career Before Clarkson’s Farm
Modelling and Acting
Hogan worked as a model before moving into film and television. During the 1990s, she also worked with John Cleese’s production company, initially as a researcher and later as a production assistant.
She appeared in the 1997 comedy Fierce Creatures, starring John Cleese, Jamie Lee Curtis, Kevin Kline and Michael Palin. Hogan played a sea lion keeper in the film, which follows the employees of a zoo threatened by changes introduced by its new management.
Although acting did not become her only profession, the experience introduced her to the British entertainment industry well before her appearances with Clarkson.
Her Work as a Sculptor
Hogan also pursued sculpture, developing an interest in figurative pieces and animal-inspired artwork. Her creative career reflects an interest in design and visual storytelling that extends beyond her earlier modelling and acting work.
Her artistic background became another aspect of a professional life that eventually included retail and television.
The 1996 Plane Crash That Changed Her Perspective
One of the most significant events in Hogan’s early career occurred on 13 August 1996, when she survived a plane crash near RAF Northolt in west London.
She was travelling from Majorca to London aboard a Learjet to rehearse for Fierce Creatures. During landing, the aircraft overshot the runway, broke through an airfield fence and collided with a van on the nearby A40 road.
Hogan, the aircraft’s only passenger, escaped with cuts, bruises and shock. The pilots and van driver also survived.
In a 2024 interview, she reflected on the accident and explained how the experience changed her outlook on life. Surviving an incident that could easily have been fatal encouraged her to reconsider how she wanted to spend her time.
The accident also provides an important contemporary record of her age, as newspaper coverage published immediately afterward identified her as 25.
